wanted to relay to you some basics in wade fishing.....equipment/rod..reel..line..etc... and the necessity of being "in touch" with your bait.. i went through all this again 3..or 4 days ago, when i had a young lady who wanted to learn the basics of wade fishing.. water temp 75-76.. close to wading wet,but we stuck with breathable waders.. the equipment she brought was spinning equipment in the "medium" range.. i asked her which spinning rod she liked the "least".. we substituted an All Star titanium rod... 7' in the medium light action and with the sensa-touch reel seat.. this rod equiped with a shimano curado reel will give you an advantage when wade fishing..... the reel was spooled with 12# big game line.. no terminal tackle, and attaching the jig or topwater directly to the line using a double surgeons knot. Talk about a direct line to the fish.... you can feel everything.. we worked on casting methods// adjusting variable drag systems.. retreiving variances// topwaters to soft plastics.. caught a few fish//// her first while wading..... and we learned a lot... nothing like practicing in the water doing the real thing.. Another conversion to bait casting equipment... not that i have anything in particular against spinning equipment..i have a very good friend who only uses spinning equipment and does quite well with it.. for me i go with bait casting equipment...the tide runners are coming in.. look for these fish to be laying their eggs on the full moon.. see you on the water... captmac
